Steering gives you warning before it gives you trouble. A whine or groan at low speed usually means the power steering pump is running low or working hard. A wet spot under the front is a hose or a rack seal. Effort that comes and goes on an electric system is a different investigation entirely.
We find where the fluid is going or which part of the circuit dropped out, and we tell you plainly when a rack has to be replaced rather than chased.
Typical timeline: Hose and leak repairs are frequently 1 shop day. Pump and rack replacement depends on parts availability—commonly 1–3 shop days, plus an alignment appointment elsewhere when the repair calls for one.

Power steering pump
For whining, groaning, or effort that gets heavy at low speed. We verify fluid condition and pump output before replacing it.
Hoses & leak repair
Most power steering complaints start as a leak. We find where the fluid is escaping instead of topping it off and sending you out.
Rack & pinion replacement
When the rack is leaking internally or has developed play, we say so directly—it is a real repair, and patching it does not work.
Electric power steering diagnosis
Assist that cuts out, goes heavy, or throws a warning on an electric system. We diagnose the circuit and tell you exactly what it needs.
Hydraulic and electric steering—different problems, different tests
On a hydraulic system, almost everything traces back to fluid: how much is in it, what condition it is in, and where it is leaking out. Running a pump low is what kills pumps. On an electric system there is no fluid at all, so the question becomes whether the motor, the sensor, or the circuit feeding it dropped the assist, and that is answered with a scan tool and live data.
Steering repairs frequently need an alignment afterward, particularly a rack replacement. We do not perform alignments, so we will tell you that up front and refer you to a partner shop rather than quietly skip the step.

We replace rather than reseal. On most vehicles a rack that is leaking internally or has developed play does not stay fixed, and we would rather tell you that before you pay for the attempt.
On an electric power steering system, intermittent assist points at the motor, a sensor, or the circuit feeding it. We diagnose it with a scan tool and live data rather than guessing at the column.
